Val had a hard start in life. His prognosis is good, according to a recent evaluation. His mother was very young and a crack user. Val came into care at age of 16 months; he was hospitalized for malnutrition at 23 months. He is receiving neurological accompaniment; physical and speech therapy are recommended. According to the neurologist, malnutrition provoked a delay in development of about 1.5 years.

is a wisp of a girl who looks as if she may have come from India....but is Brazilian. Sweet child with a lovely spirit. Jennifer is HIV+, healthy otherwise. She speaks little and needs speech therapy; her motor skills are fine and she is agile.

Maicon is a very extroverted , young boy, very sociable. He is developing well, counts, recognizes colors, and seems bright. He speaks eagerly with adults. His exact birthdate is unknown and he indeed might be younger than his birth date suggests. HIs court social worker describes him as "intelligent, learning easily, very docile and obedient." is in the first grade (2005)and his teacher says he is a good student who demonstrates enthusiasm and interest. He makes friendships easily and is respectful of adults; he is affectionate and not aggressive with others. He takes medication for hyperactivity with excellent results. ADRIANA (8)
is a plucky, spirited, happy girl with a heart for everyone. She is right on the ball, knows what's going on, and where she needs to be for any activity, outing, or meal. She loves to converse with everyone. Everyone likes Adriana who is always good-humored. She makes friends easily. Adriana has FAS and wil need special classes as she finds it hard to concentrate; she is easily distracted and learns slowly. All agree that if given reinforcement, she has good potential to move forward in life. She enjoys riding a bike and climbing on playground equipment. Latin appearance. |

Anderson is full of vitality (hyperactive). He takes medication for hypothyroidism which is well-controlled. He needs a family where he can be the only child or have one older brother and in which the parents can set firm and authoritiative limits, while remembering his need for affection and attention. Long neglected, Anderson is delayed in his development. He is gradually improving in his ability to deal with frustrations. He can be sweet and loving and is enjoyed by his social mother. |

DIANE (8)
is a healthy, normal girl who has a scar on her face from a burn suffered in her infancy. Diane does well in school and is in third grade (2005). She is described as sweet, tranquil, affectionate, establishing strong bonds with adults, getting along well with other children, and a follower. She also suffers from poor self-esteem. LUCY (9)
Lucy suffered many deprivations and abuse as a young child and came into care in 2004. She has come a long way, learning to use a plate and cutlery, care for her hygiene, meet people, and sleep in a bed. She is a happy girl now. Lucy also has a diagnosis of FAS. She receives speech therapy twice a week - although her speech is very intelligible. She has just begun kindergarten in February 2005. Indian appearance.

Ana Paula is developing well in accordance to her age in motor and physical skills. When she feels safe, she interacts with others easily. She can be timid and does have low self esteem. She is not aggressive, she accepts limits and does not rebel. Her language is expressive and as a sequence of ideas. Ana Paula has never known a good home life and would thrive if given this gift. Andressa is described as a very intelligent girl who easily makes friends. She is affectionate and sweet. At her orphanage, she enjoys ballet and dance. She is developing well in all areas. Our worker calls her a sweet child. Indian appearance.

has muscular dystrophy which is a progressive and fatal disease. He strives each day to be as independent as posible. Reinaldo has a deep voice, a round, chubby face with an ear-to-ear grin. His laugh will tickle your funny bone. How he enjoys life!

Odair is in good health and is developing fine, according to his age. His teacher says he is loving and warm, studious and gets along well with his friends and other teachers, but has difficulty assimulating the materials and is easily distracted. This is a boy full of animation, joy and spontaneity. He is ready to perform and to capture your heart. After a few moments, he acts like he has been your friend forever. Very active. Latin appearance. |

LUCAS (11)
is a very handsome boy, very loving and friendly. He likes to make himself helpful to others. He gets along well with adults and other children. He is quite bright and does well in school, despite not liking to do homework. Lucas will need a two-parent family with a strong father to give him the guidance and instruction to become a good man. If he has a choice, Lucas would like to have a sibling. Lucas came into care at age 5 years. He had surgery to correct a clubfoot. In 2005, she is in the 5th grade, while Fabio is in 2nd. Fabio has become more organized. Instead of fighting, he will often cry to win his point. Bi-racial.

As the youngest boys at their small orphanage, they are receiving wonderful care. Can play for hours. Both in school and in 4th and 2nd grades (2004). Douglas has vision loss but vision is stable and he manages fine in a normal classroom. They are happy, gentle, calm children. Enjoy sports and animals.

Lucas, 1.5 years younger, is more reserved, tranquil and quieter. Her enjoys being with his friends and going to school. The siblings live in neighboring homes and see each other daily. Lucas is in the 1st grade (2004) and does very well while Paloma has difficulties in school, is in a special class, and needs encouragement. Rogerio knows what he wants in life; he is a leader and accepts opinions and suggestion from others. It does not have to be his way, or no way. He does average work in school and enjoys soccer. He is a gem of a boy and everyone who meets him, likes him., Edson is in need of speech therapy and although he has a good mind, his learning has been handicapped by his speech. These two brothers were abandoned by their parents in 1999. They have a good relationship with other children and with the orphanage staff. No health concerns.
